Lake Usma

Usma Lake is the fourth largest lake in Latvia. Its length is 13.5 km, width is 4.5 km, area is 41.1 km². The lake is a remnant of the Baltic glacial lake. The greatest depth is 27 m. By volume – 205 million m³ – the second largest in Latvia. The length of the coastline is 73.6 km. The lake is located in Ventspils municipality, on the border with Talsi and Kuldīga municipalities. There are seven islands in the lake – Viskūži (the largest island in Latvia), Moricsala (nature reserve), Lielaksnīte, Mazalksnīte, Zossaliņa, Dvīnītes. Despite the depth – there are many shoals, which makes the lake attractive. The shores of the lake are mostly gentle and sandy, surrounded by forests. 10 rivers flow into Usma – Tīrukšupe, Godele, Melncelma, Meķupe, Sērža, Ostupe, Baņgava, Struncene, Riekte, Kāņupe. Only one river flows out of Usma – Engure. It flows into Lake Puze. The Rinda River flows out of the lake, which later, joining the Stende River, forms the Irbe, which in turn flows into the Baltic Sea. The lake is suitable for boaters and those who want to swim. A popular sailing and fishing spot.

FISHING

Usma Lake is a wonderful fishing spot in Kurzeme with more than 25 species of fish, enthusiasts from all over Latvia have found their fishing spots there.

Since May 1, 2017, licensed fishing, fishing and fishing control in Usma Lake has been organized by the association “Usmas krasts”. Fishing and spinning from a boat are allowed from May 1. In order to fish in the territory of the Moricsala Nature Reserve, you must obtain a written permit from the reserve administration. Industrial fishing also takes place in the lake.

ASSOCIATION “USMAS KRASTS”

The idea of ​​the association “Usmas krasts” is the restoration and protection of the fish resources of Lake Usma, the promotion of entrepreneurship, including the organization and development of tourism, fishing, and fisheries, and the creation of the recognition and good image of Lake Usma. The association brings together entrepreneurs and private property owners who are actively working on the shores of Lake Usma, and who are ready to work to make Lake Usma interesting for both tourists, anglers, and local residents.

USMAS YACHT CLUB

Neither dictated by orders nor encouraged by superiors, but only inspired by their own passion, in 1973 an unusual formation for those times was founded – a public organization Usmas Yacht Club with the aim of uniting sailing enthusiasts. Usmas Yacht Club is the only inland yacht port in Latvia. At the moment, 52 yachts and 134 members from many regions of Latvia are registered in the club’s port. During the summer season, 10-14 sailing competitions are held.

The club accepts children at the Youth Sailing School.

USMA GOLF CLUB

Usma Golf Club is a 9-hole meadow golf course surrounded by the Engure River and the forests of Kurzeme. The course is open to all golf enthusiasts as soon as the weather permits. Usma Golf Course also offers training courses for beginners ”ABC of Golf”, fun entertainment on the golf course for friends, families and work groups.
